Caribbean Premier League finds a new hero

David Warner is set to make his Caribbean League debut…

After a series of tumultuous events following the ball-tempering case – including not being allowed to play in the IPL, Australia’s former captain is looking forward to a comeback in franchise cricket. From Winnipeg Hawks in the Global T20 Canada, he has committed to starring in the NT Strike League, and now the cricketer is hopeful of raising his game in the Caribbean.

Marking his first appearance in the CPL T20 for the St. Lucia Stars, who are yet be crowned with their maiden title, Warner has been named a replacement for the sensational D’Arcy Short – who has been announced as a part of the Australia A squad touring India in August and September.

Muhammad Khan, the General Manager of the franchise is keen and excited for this latest addition: “We are excited to bring David to the St. Lucia Stars. David is arguably one of the greatest batsmen of the modern era and a winning player. He is going to add a lot of value on the field and in the dressing room as we pursue our first title.”

The 31 year-old is serving a one-year suspension after being involved in a ball-tampering scandal during the Test series in South Africa, along with Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft (nine month ban). The annual Caribbean Premier League will run from 8th August to 16th September, with six teams fighting for the title. David Warner cannot yet play international and state cricket, but can take part in domestic competitions.

With an explosive and amazing record in T20, he has scored 7668 runs, including 6 tons and 59 fifties, and led the Sunrisers Hyderabad to an IPL title in 2016 with some really impressive form. Wishing David successful stints ahead as well as a successful return to cricket.
