A look back at Brock Lesnar’s UFC career

Say what you want about Brock Lesnar, he still is UFC’s biggest money-drawer…

Having not stepped inside the octagon since coming up against Mark Hunt, Lesnar finally showed up at the UFC 226 event – a return he had been hinting at for quite some time now. A WWE-style confrontation with Daniel Cormier took place, pretty much confirming a future bout between the two. Initially, the UFC Heavyweight Title fight between Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier was the centre of attention, but in the end it was Brock Lesnar who took all the headlines.

One last stint?

After competing in WWE and later in New Japan Pro Wrestling, Lesnar joined the Ultimate Fighting Championship in 2008. There was a genuine feel of excitement and anticipation about “The Next Big Thing” joining the UFC. His signature definitely turned heads and people started taking notice of the company. Along with Conor McGregor and Ronda Rousey, Lesnar is one of the biggest pay-per-view sellers in the history of UFC. No matter how he does, he has always been a crowd puller. As much as MMA purists hate to admit it, the fact remains that it was Brock Lesnar who legitimized the UFC.

For all the hype and stardom, Brock Lesnar’s record is not that great. Although he has won the UFC Heavyweight Championship, his record of 5-3-1 is not eye-catching for such a celebrated superstar. A debut loss coming against Frank Mir, along with first round knock-outs against Cain Velasquez and Alistair Overeem somewhat tainted his UFC career – a wrong he would like to right in his career.

For the first time since 2016, Lesnar was seen inside the octagon at UFC 226. A fight against the new UFC Heavyweight Champion is being set up for him as Dana White confirmed, and Lesnar would want to get a few wins as he nears the end of his career. A Lesnar vs. Cormier fight will draw both money and attention. The odds would be stacked against him when he faces Daniel Cormier, who is on top of his game right now and being considered one of the greatest MMA fighters ever, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if Lesnar beats him.
